Today, President Obama released a new video through the Democratic National Committee that is already making waves on talk radio and The Drudge Report. In the video, the President calls on “young people, African-Americans, Latinos, and women” to help the Democrats in 2010. Rush Limbaugh has already covered the video and noted the absence of the word “white” in Mr. Obama’s call for voters. The Drudge Report is currently running the headline “Obama Plays Race Card.”
The Associated Press is also covering the topic. However, the AP story changes Mr. Obama’s dialogue a bit to soften the President’s rhetoric:
The video announcement of what Democrats are calling “Vote 2010″ is part of a multi-pronged effort by the Democratic National Committee to re-engage the legions of backers — including first-time voters, young people, blacks, Hispanics, and independents — who propelled Obama to victory in his groundbreaking campaign. That won’t be easy.
Mr. Obama never mentions “independent” voters in the ad. The Associated Press is simply “air-brushing” Mr. Obama’s comments to make them more palpable to the party base. Polling shows that independents have been fleeing the President in droves, most likely the reason the group is not mentioned in the DNC clip.
