PHOENIX (YBH) – U.S. Congressman Raul Grijalva has called for a boycott of his own state. Mr. Grijalva, an Arizona Democrat from Tucson, has called for a “boycott of Arizona goods, services and tourism” because of Arizona’s new controversial new immigration law.
Arizona’s unemployment rate stands at 9.4%. Calling for a boycott hardly seems like a good way to improve the employment picture in the Grand Canyon State.
The law, which will take effect this summer, allows police to inquire if someone is in the country illegally and arrest those without the legal right to be in the United States.Arizona has been hit hard by illegal immigration over the years. Most recently, a beloved rancher was killed on his own land by an illegal border crosser. As expected, the new law signed by Governor Jan Brewer last week, has sparked controversy on both sides of the issue. Those for the law claim it was time that Arizona took a stand against illegal immigration. Those against it have marched and even rioted on a small scale after the law was signed by Governor Brewer.
