Left Begins New Round of Deification of Barack “Fonzie” Obama

(YBH) – On Friday night, the President spoke forcefully in favor of the proposed Ground Zero mosque.  On Saturday afternoon the spin machine went into action.  The spin power of a new LG Tromm washing machine can’t change the fact that Obama backed the placement of the mosque very much against the wishes of a large plurality of the American public.  Democrats are rightfully concerned about Mr. Obama’s stance (Harry Reid has already come out against the President on the issue).

What to do?  Simple.  Start promoting the idea of how “courageous” Obama is for backing an Islamic Cultural Center while the “small minded” (read bigots) cower in fear of Islam.  American’s are pretty united on this issue.  The bigotry dance may not work this time around.  Moving the mosque is the goal.

The President is awfully close to “jumping” the proverbial “shark” of public opinion.  The point of no return.   “Jumping the shark” is a reference to an episode of the 1970′s television show “Happy Days”when Fonzie attempted to jump a shark tank in an effort to improve the sagging ratings of the show during its fifth season.  It didn’t work, the show somehow lasted another full seven years on air though.  Doing what you have always done isn’t exactly a game-changer.   Fonzie always did grandiose “cool” things on the show.  Jumping a shark tank was not actually different and failed to move audiences.  Obama is in much the same position today regarding the mosque at Ground Zero.  I have yet to see an issue where the President didn’t defer to the religion of his forebears in a cultural conflict.  Besides, Obama is already unpopular, doing one more unpopular thing isn’t exactly courage: it is arrogance.  At some point the opinion of the American people must be heeded.

O' and the Fonz coming to ABC stations this fall.

Actually, Barack Obama is the Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli of modern America.  The “Fonz” also caught the imagination of the nation.  And the Fonz was also kept on air long after he was popular.  Even Ralph Malph (Robert Gibbs?) was written off the show before the Fonz. No matter how many times the Fonz banged a jukebox, by 1979 the magic was gone and Fonzie’s antics had grown stale.  The President was the first ever to be sold as a cultural phenomenon based on his personality, that phenomenon is growing stale.  Reagan and Kennedy became cultural phenoms after their terms in office.  Obama was sold as one beforehand, a shift indeed.

Are Americans truly reconsidering a man called Obama?  It sure looks that way.  Has the President “jumped the shark” by pulling for an Islamic cultural center to replace a building that was damaged by Muslim terrorists on 9/11?  Perhaps not, but he is awful close.

President Obama may have a soft spot for Islam, but his true love is government.  He told a group of Hollywood elites last night that ,”we have been able to deliver the most progressive legislative agenda — one that helps working families — not just in one generation, maybe two, maybe three.”  That is what President Obama cares about, the power of government to rule lives via “progressive” legislation.   When talking to the party faithful, Obama reveals his true self:  that of a left-wing ideologue.

The American people are tiring of the rate in which government is growing and how out of touch the President and the ruling class in Washington are.  If the President continues to buck popular opinion because “he knows better” than the rest of us bitter (clingers: guns and religion) Americans, he will most likely be out of a job in 2012.    The President would  be well served to call for the mosque to be moved to another location.  Not blocked, moved.  Obama needs to do a few things that are actually popular with ordinary Americans.  Until then Americans are starting to get the feeling that we are ruled, not governed.

Leather jacket, two thumbs up and big “Ehhhhhhhh!”
