Village Voice Guilty of Price Fixing, Trying to Avoid Paying Judgement
Posted by Laura Glendinning in Media Quick Hit on January 19, 2010
LOS ANGELES (YBH.ME) – The venerable Village Voice and its parent company New Media LLC have been found guilty of price-fixing ad rates in San Francisco Bay-area alternative newspapers. They owe a substantial judgement to the Bay Guardian Company: at least $15.9 million, up to $21 million with interest and penalties.

Conan Won’t Go Easy, If At All

LOS ANGELES (YBH.ME) - UPDATE. Jay at 11:35 and Conan at 12:05 is not settled after all, much to the worry of NBC execs who have been shooting themselves in the foot over the “Tonight Show” changes since June 2009.

Conan O’Brien released a statement today which made clear he does not approve of the 12:05 start time for the “Tonight Show”. According to Nicki Finke’s “Deadline Hollywood”, Conan is due a $60 million payout if he is not given the agreed-upon slot and no compromise is reached. He is not contractually obligated to make it work, much as NBC would wish him to. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by Laura Glendinning in Media Quick Hit on January 12, 2010
LOS ANGELES (YBH.ME) – Good pollsters are an elite bunch, chosen by politicians, ad agencies, corporations and media outlets because they poll an accurate demographic mix which is reflective of socety’s.
Then there are wildfire internet polls. AT&T and Yahoo have sponsored a poll asking:
The president’s progress with the battered economy has been both praised and criticized. How well are his efforts measuring up with you?
Over 5.2 million people have responded, and the news is not good for the White House. 63 per agree with “Not well at all”. 36 per cent say “Extremely well.” Only 1 per cent have no opinion.
With this kind of poll, the sponsors don’t know anything about the respondents except they landed on the poll page and have access to a computer.
