Sean Penn And Rectal Cancer
Posted by John Romano in News and Analysis, Sports and Entertainment on March 12, 2010
Increasingly controversial actor Sean Penn last week called for American journalists who criticize Hugo Chavez to be thrown in jail. This week he was asked a simple question about a remark he made in reference to his critics. He doesn’t answer and shuts down the interview. Mr. Penn told CBS news that he hopes his critics “die screaming of rectal cancer.” Both clips are below:
Sean Penn Calls For Reporters In Jail
Posted by John Romano in Politics, Sports and Entertainment on March 9, 2010
LOS ANGELES (YBH.ME) – Sean Penn’s controversial statement on Bill Maher’s HBO chat show:
“Every day, this elected leader is called a dictator here, and we just accept it, and accept it. And this is mainstream media, who should — truly, there should be a bar by which one goes to prison for these kinds of lies.”
Look for a retraction or an expansion of Mr. Penn’s remarks in coming days. It would be hard to believe that Mr. Penn actually wants American journalists in jail for calling Hugo Chavez a dictator, but who knows? Read the rest of this entry »
Tea Party Radio Host Seeks To Counter Movie Critic Roger Ebert
Posted by John Romano in Sports and Entertainment on February 11, 2010
FROM APMN:
In light of movie critic Roger Ebert’s remarkably crass, and disgusting remarks about the Tea Party Movement, APMN talk show host Tony Katz is looking for a movie reviewer to talk about films on his new national show, The Tony Katz Radio Spectacular.
Tony laid out the scenario to APMN.
“Roger Ebert must still think this is 1986, and he’s the only game in town. This is the new media world, and the last thing we need to rely on is a luddite like Mr. Ebert. He took a nonsense, foolhardy, cheap shot at millions of Americans who stand proud with the Tea Party movement. And, he did it with an off-color and well repudiated reference to the Tea Parties. So, I have decided to fill the void for those who want to know about upcoming films, or great old films that they should be watching. But, not being a movie expert, I decided to hire some one.”
On each Thursday, Tony will have “The Tony Katz Movie Review Spectacular.” The to-be-chosen reviewer will discuss two movies – one recently released film, and one classic film. They will give their thoughts, and their recommendations. Read the rest of this entry »
The Who Super Bowl Performance Falls Flat (Set List Included)
Posted by John Romano in Reviews, Sports and Entertainment on February 7, 2010
MIAMI (YBH.ME) – The Who, or at least the living members, performed at Super Bowl XLIV today. The much-hyped performance fell flat. Both Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend are pushing 70, and it showed today. Musically the band played great, however the performance was extremely stiff. The duo used a younger backing band reminding the viewing audience of just how aged Mr. Daltrey and Mr. Townshend are. Watching a 65 year-old Pete Townshend screaming “It’s only teenage wasteland” was a very odd moment.
The band chose to do shortened versions of their biggest hits, which distracted from the overall performance. The opening number, a very short version of “Pinball Wizard” was good but lacked energy. The last tune, “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” would have been a show stopper had they not chose to shorten the tune’s signature parts. The band also played shortened versions of “Baba O’Reilly” and “Who Are You.”
Comedian Scores With Crazy Dancing And Small Government Message
Posted by John Romano in Politics, Sports and Entertainment on January 11, 2010
LOS ANGELES (YBH.ME) – Comedian Tim Hawkins has scored an internet hit with a video parody of “The Candy Man” entitled “The Government Can.” The fun-loving song parody features an anti-tax, or at least anti-OVER taxation message, that Democrats and Republicans alike will find funny.
Mr. Hawkins also does a dance that could only rival Elaine Benes dancing on a now-classic “Seinfeld” episode. Mr. Hawkins is not shy about throwing his body all over the screen, that is for sure. The video, seen below, uses clever graphics and lyrics to get Mr. Hawkins’ message across. Mr. Hawkins also takes pains to not overtly single out either party in Washington D.C., preferring a general non-partisan, anti-big government theme instead.
