Fort Hood Memorial, Obama: “No Faith Justifies” Hasan’s Actions

3:28 EST – Networks begin to cut away.

3:24 EST – President Obama pays final honors to the dead.

3:22 EST – Rifle salute and the playing of “Taps.”

3:19 EST – Roll Call and blessing of the dead.

3:14 EST – Army Chaplain Michael Lembke reads from the bible and makes remarks.

3:10 EST – A soldier sings “Amazing Grace.”

3:03 – 3:09 EST – Obama: “No faith justifies” Hasan’s actions. Obama: “America always on the side of liberty and equality.”  Obama: “This generation has proved itself.” Obama: “God bless the memory of those we have lost.”  No mention of the words “terror” or “Islam” by President Obama.

2:58 – 3:02 EST – The President talks about each person killed in the “tragedy.”  Photos of each person killed is displayed on screen as the President talks.

2:55 EST – Obama is introduced.  Some in crowd “woo” again as if at a campaign rally.  Obama: “We are at war.” Obama: Calls incident “tragedy” not terror.  Obama: “[America] could not exist without the sacrifice of these 13 Americans.”

2:49 – 2:54 EST – Army Chief of Staff General George Casey is introduced.  Casey: murders a “kick in the gut.”  No mention of the word “terror” by either Casey or Cone.

2:45 – 2:48 EST – Fort Hood Commander Robert Cone takes the stage. Cone: “The dead leave behind 19 children.”  Cone: “545 soldiers from Fort Hood have fallen in Iraq and Afghanistan.”  Cone: “community answered the call.”

2:44 EST -  An army chaplain reads the first names of the dead.

2:40 EST – President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama walk on stage.  Some in crowd inappropriately yell “woo” upon seeing the President.
