Fundraising With Fear

Whenever we get interesting fundraising letters, from either the left or right, we print them. We received the following letter from Young America’s Foundation (YAF) this week.

Democrats like to say that Republicans are sheep in the hands of their political masters.  If the letter below is actually effective in raising money, I’ll have to question as to whether they are correct.  Democrats do the same kind of fundraising by the way.  I think it stinks no matter who does it.

I don’t know exactly what YAF teaches young conservatives, but they sure do teach how to write a good fundraising letter as I’m sure Ms. Giles wrote every word of the text below.

It is a long letter, but if you are up for it here is the entire text of the Young America’s Foundation’s pitch letter:

From The Desk of Hannah Giles

March 10, 2010

Dear Mr. Romano,

You may not recognize my name but you’ve probably seen me on Fox News.

I’m the student who went undercover to expose ACORN for what it really is … a corrupt, ultra-left organization.

I’m a 21-year-old college student who’s been raised to love God and to love my country.

I never thought those beliefs would land me in the trouble I’m in now, but that’s exactly what’s happened.

In case you haven’t seen the video, let me tell you what I did.

As a student, I knew that the giant liberal media machine was turning a blind eye to ACORN’s practices.

So I decided to investigate ACORN.

I pretended to be a prostitute.

I went to an ACORN office in Baltimore and asked for a government loan for a house for our “business.”

I looked the ACORN employees straight in the eye and told them my “business” was prostitution.

Instead of throwing me out the door, they told me how I could lie to the IRS and say I was a “Performing Artist” so that I could get government assistance!

Then, I told them that I planned to expand my “business” by bringing 13 underage girls into the country illegally to also “work” as prostitutes — which of course, was also a fictitious part of our story.

Would ACORN employees really help someone who planned to use illegal immigrant children as sex slaves?

To my absolute amazement and disgust, they told me that I should just list the underage girls as “dependents” — but not all of them, of course, because that would raise a red flag with the IRS.

I sat there numb, in disbelief and disgusted as ACORN employees taught me how to cheat the IRS and get government funding for an underage prostitution ring.

I knew our exposure of ACORN would shock America.

If you’ve been following our story on TV, you know what happened after we went public:

** 4 ACORN employees were fired.

** The Census Bureau and the IRS severed ties with ACORN.

** And both the Senate and the House at least took initial steps to stop some taxpayer money from going to this corrupt organization.

As you can imagine, ACORN employees are furious. And now they’re coming after me.

Even though it was ACORN telling me how to evade the IRS, and it was ACORN turning a blind eye when we mentioned harboring children as sex slaves …

They are now suing me for exposing THEIR corruption.

Remember, ACORN is the same organization Barack Obama was involved with in Chicago. And the wagons of the giant liberal media machine have already circled to destroy me.

** While Breitbart.com, Fox News, and Drudge reported my undercover ACORN investigation as their lead story, liberal media outlets were silent. It took the ultra-left Washington Post an entire week to report what I had uncovered.

** When CBS and-NBC finally reported -my story, they treated ACORN as the victim of a “right-wing conspiracy.”

** And many liberal reporters pretended not to know about our story at all. When asked about our undercover ACORN story, ABC’s Charlie Gibson laughed,_ condescendingly and suggested that the story be reported by the cable channels.

Here are the facts plain and simple — ACORN is corrupt, and the Left is largely ignoring the scandal.

The liberal media and radical left-wingers including Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barney Frank (whose “partner” had been accused of harboring a prostitution ring in his own home!) — want young conservatives like me silenced.

President Obama’s Organizing for America is enlisting high school students to push for Obama’s leftist agenda.

Leftists at Perry Local High School in Massillon, Ohio gave students enlistment papers to sign-up to become activists for liberalism.

You see, the Obama forces are coaxing young people to help “change the world.”

They want traditional, conservative America out of the way … so they can force their anything-goes, socialistic agenda on America.

But there’s still hope.

Together, we can reach young people like me before Obama’s volunteers do.

That’s why I’m writing to you: to thank you for your support of an organization I respect and admire.

It’s Young America’s Foundation and their project, the National Journalism Center (NJC).

You see, I got my start at Young America’s_ Foundation.

It was there that I grew inspired to take on the powerful and conniving Left in a greater way.

Young America’s Foundation introduced me to conservative stars including Brit Hume, Dr. Walter Williams, Michelle Malkin, Michael Reagan, and many more heroes who have fought for what’s right at great personal risk.

My father, Doug Giles, spoke to young people through the Foundation at the University of North Carolina Greensboro and at their conferences.

It was my privilege to intern with Young America’s Foundation’s NJC last summer, to attend Young America’s Foundation’s “Enemies of Freedom” Seminar at the Reagan Ranch Center, and to participate in the Foundation’s National Conservative Student Conference in 2007.

Last year alone, Young America’s Foundation changed the lives of more than 522,231 people. They have always stood ready to support and defend young activists like me.

In addition, Young America’s Foundation is recruiting hundreds of students — just like me — to come visit the Reagan Ranch in Santa Barbara, California.

They’re encouraging them to get more involved in standing up to biased professors and advancing your ideas on college campuses nationwide.

But thousands more young people on campus are needed if we’re going to stop the liberal media machine from continuing to spread its lies.

Mr. Romano, I’m living proof of how Young America’s Foundation is bringing up the next generation of conservative leaders and recruiting them to advance your ideas and expose the corrupt Obama administration.

Thousands of my peers grew up listening to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and watching Fox News.

Now, my friends have never been more eager to become effective leaders in the Conservative Movement. They’re looking to learn more about how to advance your ideas.

Thankfully, Young America’s Foundation is the place for young people to receive motivation and inspiration for your ideas.

I’m writing you today because I’m hoping that you’ll support Young America’s Foundation with a special, onetime $500, $250, or $100 donation.

Right now, I’m fighting for my future and for the future of the country I love.

I don’t know what’s going to happen to me. I do know that if there were more student activists actually bringing conservative balance to campus environments, the Left would not be able to get away with their one-sided indoctrination campaigns in classrooms.

Young people need the support of friends like you who do not want to see traditional, conservative America silenced.

Unlike ACORN, Young America’s Foundation doesn’t accept any government money — not one penny.

They rely on patriotic Americans who want students to receive facts — not liberal propaganda.

That’s why I’m hoping you’ll support Young America’s Foundation’s mission by sending back a one-time $100 donation.

This isn’t about me – but it’s about my generation. I really believe that you and I can turn our country around – and it begins with reaching out to students.

If one 21-year old girl from Florida like me can expose ACORN, think of what one person can do helping the largest youth organization recruit and train future Hannah Giles?

Through my involvement, I can see young people have never been more eager to get involved in the Conservative Movement, oppose Obama’s socialism in the war of ideas, and advance your freedom philosophy.

That is exactly why I had to write to you today.

Will you help my peers advance conservative ideas and provide conservative balance on college campuses and in high schools?

We must act today before the Left responds to recent conservative victories.

I can humbly say that young people have been inspired by my activism exposing ACORN and they are emboldened to help defeat the Left.

Please support Young America’s Foundation with your $100 donation. And please keep me in your prayers.

With Great Thanks,

Hannah Giles
