SAN FRANCISCO (YBH.ME) – On his campaign’s website, Newsom stated, “[w]ith a young family and responsibilities at city hall, I have found it impossible to commit the time required to complete this effort the way it needs to — and should be — done.”

Gavin Newsom bows out.
Lackluster fundraising and an apparent groundswell for the not-yet-declared Attorney General Jerry Brown were also cited as reasons for the withdrawal by some pundits.
Newsom’s campaign utilized social media like Twitter and Facebook aggressively over the past year, but the effort did not translate into campaign contributions as hoped.
A mid-month Field poll offered dismal numbers, with Jerry Brown at 47% of Democratic voters, and Newsom at 26%. Newsom was leading among voters aged 18-39, where he had a nine-point advantage – the ideal social media demographic.
