NEW YORK (YBH) – The video below is an ABC news piece on the Westboro Baptist Church. The church known for its anti-gay rhetoric was featured on ABC.
In the video, Lauren Drain, the daughter of two members of the church describes her “excommunication” from the church for pointing out various hypocrisies within the controversial faith community. The exact “hypocrisies” aren’t detailed in the piece, which is a shame as surely Ms. Drain would discuss them if asked, but the segment is quite compelling nonetheless.
Ms. Drain, raised in the church and a member until leaving three years ago, is now a nurse living hundreds of miles away from the church’s headquarters in Topeka, Kansas.
The church is well known for holding up placards at the funerals of U.S. Servicemen that read “God Hates Fags.” The founder of the church is Fred Phelps.
Westboro Baptist Church is not associated with any Baptist umbrella organization or associations.
