(YBH) – Let’s get a few things out of the way when it comes to Indiana Governor, and would be candidate for President, Mitch Daniels. The press reports that Daniels hesitation to announce a 2012 bid is based on his wife, Cheri’s, concerns. A little background.
Mitch Daniels first met his wife in 1975. Cheri and Mitch married in 1978 and were divorced in 1993. That year, Cheri Daniels left Mitch and their four daughters to marry a man in California. Four years later the Daniels reunited and remarried.
The Huffington Post and the true believers on the left will likely focus on the Daniels marital trouble like a laser beam. This image of course will be juxtaposed with metaphorical pictures of the Obama family running through lily fields smiling from ear to ear.
It is what the press does.
When Obama says things like “corpsemen” instead of “corpsmen” or tells a crowd that the United States has 57 states, the press tends to ignore those gaffes. Likewise, when Sarah Palin blows a Katie Couric interview, we get a five year long Tina Fey skit.
The Daniels, however, must recognize that this is just the state of affairs in modern America. Republicans are held to higher standard by the legacy press than Democrats.
If they survive the mud storm Daniels and his wife will be real contenders for the throne. Mitch Daniels has done a great job leading the state of Indiana and he has 20 years of Washington experience to boot. Further, in the age of image management, Obama will look like an elitist snob looking down his nose debating the diminutive Daniels.
You see, Daniels looks like a cross between Daniel Craig and Vladimir Putin. That visual will work against the President, not help him. I do realize the in the tank press will do their best to make Daniels seem taller, in this case. Ha ha!
I’ve long been a proponent of Mitch Daniels getting in the race. Whether he wins or loses he will help the GOP 2012 field greatly. That is a good thing for all of us, Democrat or Republican.
With that, I’m John Romano for Yes, But, However!.
