NEW YORK (YBH) – Adding to an already undying scandal over the Ground Zero mosque are the backers of the controversial Park 51 complex themselves.  Yesterday, the Twitter feed belonging to the Islamic cultural center developers (@park51) had this to say to a Twitter user with the name “Amish” in his or her title:

Amish saying stop Muslims?1. What are you doing on the computer? 2. That’s not very Amish 3. Shouldn’t you be making butter?

The twit was later deleted according to Politico.

Mosque backers to Amish: "No Twitter for you"

The mosque controversy has been growing ever larger, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi yesterday called for investigations into those that oppose the Ground Zero mosque.  It is not clear from her remarks if Ms. Pelosi wants a congressional or criminal investigation.  Ms. Pelosi did not relay which laws she thought were broken by voicing opposition to the mosque.

The founders of the Park 51 mosque have stated via Twitter last night that  “We are in the process of introducing a new team and are issuing apologies for any prior tweets that may have caused offense.”  Park 51 also earlier apologized for a twit that made fun of Jewish fables declaring, “We would like to issue a formal apology for the Yiddish tweet yesterday, it was meant in jest and no insult was intended.”  Park 51 attributed the offensive tweets on an overzealous intern with the project.  The intern is no longer involved with the projects Twitter feed.

Note: We sent the following twit to @park51 this morning:

Will openly gay NY’s be allowed to swim and work out at Park 51? Will women be required to work out separate from men? No Amish?

We will print a response in its entirety if one is received.

Amish people can twitter all they want except in their own house. Amish Church members use electricity in their Milk houses and in other food storage buildings, just not in their homes, whats more they may work in a store or resturant that uses electricity including internet, so YES THEY CAN TWITTER. At least they dont go around blowing people up for no apparent reason.
