(YBH) – In a move that would make George Orwell’s fictional government in “1984″ proud, MoveOn.org has scrubbed its website of criticism of General David Petraeus. The left-wing web outlet has removed two pages from its index today.
Below is a screen shot of one of those pages (http://pol.moveon.org/petraeus.htm) as it appeared on June 18th (the last Google cache available). The other page, which explained why MoveOn.org ran its infamous ad, was also scrubbed out of existence.
The link now redirects users to MoveOn.org’s homepage. In a flash, the left wing websites “General Petraeus or General Betray Us?” ad is scuttled down the memory hole. The pages were removed from MoveOn.org less than one day after President Obama fired General Stanley McChrystal and put his boss General David Petraeus in the driver’s seat in Afghanistan.
Attempts by MoveOn.org to say that the ad was removed because of the new role General Petraeus is taking in Afghanistan may fall flat with critics of the website. It was George W. Bush that put General Petraeus in the limelight originally, which made Petraeus fair game to websites like MoveOn.org. General Petraeus has been very active in military affairs as the head of CENTCOM and the architect of the successful “surge” strategy in Iraq since the original MoveOn.org ad appeared in the New York Times in 2007, the only real difference is that MoveOn.org’s preferred President, Barack Obama, has now given General Petraeus his blessing.
General Stanley McChrystal was fired over remarks his aides made to Rolling Stone magazine about the Obama administration’s handling of the nine year conflict in Afghanistan.
