LOS ANGELES (YBH) – Today, August 4, marks President Barack Obama’s 49th birthday. Some polls put the President’s approval rating at or below 50 per cent. With an eye to midterm elections and the 2012 Presidential race, Democrat party organizers are looking to use the birthday as a way to re-energize supporters and bring in new ones.
There will be more than 500 birthday events around the country, including a potluck in Phoenix and theme parties featuring “49 candles for America.” The President’s wife and younger daughter Sasha are vacationing at a lavish resort in Marbella, Spain, a trip paid for by donors. King Juan Carlos plans a meet with the First Lady during her stay.
Mr. Obama will be in Chicago, enjoying a combination DNC fundraiser and birthday celebration at real estate mogul Neil Bluhm’s Chicago mansion. Attendees will pay $30,400 a plate to be at the bash. Through social media posts and an email blast, the First Lady has gathered close to 1 million signatures on an e-card for her husband. Signers were pitched to donate to the DNC, as well.
