WASHINGTON, D.C. (YBH.ME) – The Democrats’ favorite election law firm, Perkins Coie, has garnered so much influence in Washington, D.C. that one of their own will now call The White House home.  Bob Bauer, the man who built Perkins Coie’s political law division, is set to replace White House Counsel Greg Craig.

If you need to know about Perkins Coie,  just think of Al Franken, Bob Toricelli and Washington Governor Christine Gregoire.  The firm successfully represented all three in election matters.  In the case of Franken and Gregoire, both were behind in the polls after election day until Perkins Coie went into action.  After very public fights, both elections ended in the Democrats’ favor.

Seattle-based Perkins Coie represents many Fortune 500 companies.  It is the work of  the Political Law division in recent years where the firm stands out.  In addition to representing Democrats like Torricelli and Franken, the firm currently represents both the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Bauer is one half of a Washington D.C. power couple, the other being Anita Dunn, who recently left her White House Press Office position,  presumably to keep crony accusations at bay.    Bauer played political hardball during Obama’s campaign,  earning big points for taking on and stifling the ad campaign created to spotlight Obama’s association with Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground.  While failing to keep the ads off the air, Mr. Bauer’s work greatly marginalized the attack campaign.  He’s also on record supporting HR 45, legislation introduced to track all handguns in the United States.

The departure of Bauer’s  predecessor Craig is a relief to those on the left who blamed him for the slow to no action on the closing of Guantanamo Bay.
