Glynn Johnson, forever to be known as the Puppy Killer of Woodcrest, will receive a cushy pension from the state of California for the rest of his life. (YBH! has yet to ascertain the exact amount of Mr. Johnson’s pension.)
Mr, Johnson retired from the Los Angeles County Fire Department after he was arrested for killing his neighbor’s six-month old puppy in late 2008. Mr. Johnson claims he killed the dog because he felt his “life was threatened” by the 40 pound dog, but witnesses state that was not the case.
Mr. Johnson was convicted earlier this year of extreme animal cruelty. He was sentenced Friday to no real jail time (he received a 90 day “weekend” sentence in a work release program) by a judge that many claim was sympathetic to the fact that Mr. Johnson was a fellow state employee. In a similar case in 2001, Andrew Douglas Burnett received a three year sentence for killing a dog in an act of road rage in San Francisco. Mr. Burnett was not a well-connected civil service employee.
Mr. Johnson is 55 years old. He will receive a pension from Los Angeles County for the rest of his life. Sociopaths, like Mr. Johnson, that kill small animals rarely resist the urge to do so again.
Press reports state that Mr. Johnson was all smiles as he left the courtroom after his sentencing on Friday.
NOTE: This article has been updated to reflect that Mr. Johnson worked for the Los Angeles County, not City, Fire Department.
