(YBH) – The Democrats have every incentive in the world to keep the birther movement alive. So, I guess I’m doing my part with this column.
I have never understood the birther movement. Even if Obama was somehow born in Kenya he was still born an American citizen according to any credible analysis on the subject. Rahm Emanuel is a clever and nasty politician, I’d bet dollars to donuts that he gets that Cheshire cat grin on his face whenever the birther movement comes up in the press. I know I would if I had his job. It is a good issue for Democrats.

Birthers are the equivalent of those people that think Bush and the Jews took down the World Trade Center. The truthers cometh! I never understood those folks either.
The ironic thing is that the conspiracy types would be much better served to carp on about how the President’s college records have never been made fully public. That is an issue simply for the fact that Mr. Obama refuses to release them. Something is going on there. However, it’s more than likely that a stretch of bad grades or a dubious admission practice or tuition payment would be revealed. His college records will not reveal that he is from Kenya. Sorry.
Also, if you want to go on about citizenship, why not take issue if whether he is a dual Indonesian/American? Indonesia in the early seventies was quite a strict place when it came to immigration. Making a case that he was forced to legally change his name and citizenship to Soetoro/Indonesian would be much more believable. Dual-citizenship wouldn’t disqualify him as President, but it would sure look bad that it was never revealed.
The point is, the “birther” movement along with the 9/11 “truther” movement, are so far out of the realm of reality that it only serves the opposition. I will take it a step further. Birthing and truthing are psychological reactions to not being able to accept facts. Harsh? Yes, but also true in my estimation.
The fact is, Barack Obama is President of the United States until January of either 2013 or 2017. Members of the Islamic faith took down the Twin Towers and Barack Obama was elected President. Get over it.
And oh yeah, Obama is from Kenya like I’m from Italy. . . a generation or two removed.
