HARTFORD (YBH) – Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal defended his misstatements over his Vietnam record. During a press conference in Hartford today the Attorney General, and now current Democrat Senate candidate, admitted that he misspoke in several instances claiming that he served “in” Vietnam not “during” Vietnam. FOX News unearthed video clips in which Mr. Blumenthal states that he served in Vietnam during a speech to veterans. Mr. Blumenthal claims he misspoke “unknowingly”, however it is difficult to reconcile that with the fact that by Mr. Blumenthal’s own admission he misstated his military record on more that one occasion.
Video of Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal Claiming he Served in Vietnam:
Mr. Blumenthal went on to deflect criticism and spent much of his press conference talking about how badly current veterans are treated when they return from various theaters of operation.
Polls aren’t out yet, but conventional wisdom dictates that Mr. Blumenthal’s chances of winning a Senate seat have diminished greatly. Mr. Blumenthal never clarified his claims of serving in Vietnam until the New York Times ran a story on his fabrications in yesterday’s newspaper.
