A lighthearted tidbit for a Tuesday in January:
I received a tip today that San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom will direct his police department to begin fining store owners $1,000 if gum is found on the sidewalks of San Francisco storefronts.

I haven’t been able to confirm this story. I did find a YouTube of the Mayor’s weekly address to the citizens of San Francisco where the Mayor calls gum “public enemy #1.” I’d have thought violent crime and drug use would top the list, but the Mayor sees things differently. Hey, I don’t live in San Francisco, so it is kind of none of my business. The people in S.F. love the guy. When I first read about the issue I thought someone mis-typed the word “gun.” But, alas it is Wrigley’s currently in the Mayor’s sights, not Smith and Wesson.
The Mayor did highlight a piece of news in the video that the homicide rate in 2009 in the city by the bay dropped significantly. If gum is the biggest crime issue left in San Francisco, Police Chief Heather Fong should be promoted to Homeland Security Chief forthwith. Watch your back Janet Napolitano!
I did, however, discover something else about the good Mayor. If you listen closely to the audio in the video below you’ll see that Mr. Newsom has picked up the mannerisms of another beloved Democrat. That’s right Mayor Newsom is the west coast version of our Commander in Chief, Barack Obama.
Throughout the video you can catch Newsom doing Obama, but skip ahead to 12:35 to see a virtual copy of President Obama’s speech and delivery pattern. When he says “that is the dumbest thing you can do,” just imagine Barack Obama saying “it’s the right thing to do.” It is very funny.
I’d suggest you watch the entire video, but I don’t want to be responsible for the attempted suicides from boredom that would ensue from that advice.
