LOS ANGELES (YBH) – Right wing talk show host Sean Hannity is being accused of fraud by a usual ally, columnist Debbie Schlussel.
Ms. Schlussel has written a scathing piece about the talk show crumudgeon’s “Freedom Concerts” over at www.debbieschlussel.com. The article lays out in heavy detail how Mr. Hannity’s “Freedom Concerts” have only spent 3 cents of every dollar raised helping wounded soldiers. In one case, a soldier who lost three limbs fighting in Iraq was given $200 by Mr. Hannity’s charity. To quote Ms. Schlussel, “While Hannity’s Freedom Concerts take in millions, only a few hundred thousand go to the claimed intended recipients.”
The rest of the money raised, a staggering $46 million, has gone to cover expenses including Mr. Hannity’s exclusive use of a G5 private jet, a slew of luxury vehicles, and expansive hotel suites for him and his entourage. (NOTE: We at YBH! are hearing rumblings that the charity doesn’t pick up Mr. Hannity’s personal travel expenses, however, the figures Ms. Schlussel references seem beyond repute. The charity pays cronies and consultants millions more than it does to soldiers and their families.)
Sean Hannity is not listed as a staff member on Freedom Alliance’s website, however he is the public face and voice of the group. Mr. Hannity constantly pitches the “freedom concerts” on his radio and TV shows.
The hyper-partisan leftist Daily Kos covered this issue in 2007.
