LOS ANGELES (YBH.ME) – Describing itself as a website which “in 10 questions or less, will offer you a great solution to your problem, concern or dilemma, on hundreds of topics,” www.hunch.com released the results of its most recent online survey: the food choices of conservatives versus liberals.    If you like iceberg lettuce, deep dish pizza, beer and fried chicken, you are more likely to be conservative. Your ethnic food of choice leans toward Italian.

Arugula, Asian food, fresh fruit, whole wheat bread and wine topped the liberal list.  Assiduously avoiding the Republican and Democrat label, the site offers a fairly comprehensive statistical analysis of the results.   The survey designers concede that their respondents were skewed to liberal – 54 per cent, with only 15 per cent conservative and 31 per cent “middle of the road.”

Kelly Ford, vice president of marketing and content, acknowledges,  “we did not segment by state, and as the report indicates in the summary section, geography almost certainly plays a contributing causal role in some of the correlations the report explores.”

Still, at a time when the current   President’ s affection for arugula and salmon is well known,  food is politics. . .  isn’t it?

The website touts itself as a decision-making aid for those who are too confused to sort through their options alone, from buying a new phone to getting a new girlfriend.   Social networking and forums are thrown in for good measure, but the site’s ultimate goal is seemingly to get you clicking through to sites where you can buy the phone and buy – er – meet the girl.
