LOS ANGELES (YBH) UPDATE  – As of 12:23 today Republicans Meg Whitman and Newt Gingrich have been added to Twitter’s “Suggested Users” list along with the “Riverside County GOP.”

Twitter updates its "Suggested Users" list to include Republicans.

Twitter updates its "Suggested Users" list to include Republicans.

Twitter was under fire today for only including Democrats on its list of 500 or so “Suggested Users” that it recommends to new users of the service.

YBH! thinks this is more of a case of  Twitter underestimating its new found prominence, rather than overt political bias.  Inclusion on the “Suggested Users” list is a leg-up for those lucky enough to be on it.  For instance, long time list-maker Democrat Gavin Newsom has 1.2 million Twitter followers, while new addition Meg Whitman has under 5000.
