NEW YORK (YBH) – The Obama White House’s campaign arm has purchased an ad on Google for the search term “Goldman Sachs SEC.” When the ad is clicked a splash page displays the text, “We’ve seen and lived the consequences of what happens when there’s too little accountability on Wall Street and too little protection for Main Street. It’s time for real change.” A user is then prompted to “Join the President” and enter their email address and zip code to “Get Started.”
Many believe that it was the Presidents public humiliation of Anthem Blue Cross’ insurance rate increases in California that pushed the President’s large health care reform bill over the finish line. Conservatives, such as Rush Limbaugh, have accused the White House of attempting to use a conveniently timed SEC lawsuit against Goldman Sachs as a way to rally public support around an equally vast financial regulations overhaul that currently lacks votes for passage.
The fact that Organizing for America, a group run Democratic National Committee to support Obama initiatives, has bought ads on Google adds weight to Mr. Limbaugh’s narrative.
