OPINION: Why Charlie Rangel Has To Go

I’m a fan of Charlie Rangel.  We agree on almost nothing politically.  I’m a Conservative, and think most of Mr. Rangel’s political positions are anti-American.  When I say anti-American, I don’t mean Mr. Rangel hates this country. I mean that his positions actually hurt the greatness of our country and that is where the anti-Americanism comes in.  Believe me, Mr. Rangel has done much more for this country than I have done or will do.  Navy veteran, multi-term congressman, and civil rights advocate when the fight for civil rights was a life or death affair. The man has served the country he loves.

Scandal plagued Congressman Charlie Rangel.

Scandal plagued Congressman Charlie Rangel.

I’ve always liked Charlie Rangel, but my interest turned to a sort of adoration when Mr. Rangel lambasted Hugo Chavez for knocking GWB while on American soil.  Charlie Rangel stood for the best of America that day.

Unfortunately, Mr. Rangel, as the head of the House Ways and Means Committee, is in an untenable position these days.  Recent allegations, and revelations from Mr. Rangel himself regarding under reporting of income and assets, makes it clear that Charlie Rangel must step down from all of his committee leadership posts immediately.  The voters of New York’s 15th District can handle the rest if they so choose.

It is very hard to watch most of the media attempt to either slag off or downplay Mr. Rangel’s misdeeds, while putting a microscope to all GOP member actions.

We join with the Washington Post in calling for Mr. Rangel’s resignation as chief of the House Ways and Means Committee immediately.   For the sake of the country you love, Charles Rangel please do the right thing.
