Forget Dick Cheney. Sarah Palin is the true Darth Vader come to life, without the mask and heavy breathing. At least for the purposes of the left-wing of the internet. With The Divine Miss P.’s book storming the media cycle, the left is on the attack. Just today, the Huffington Post is running a story which has received over 1,000 comments thus far, about the “biggest falsehoods” in Palin’s new book “Going Rogue.” HuffPo called on its devoted group of readers to “Find a falsehood in “Going Rogue” — send it to us!”

Sarah Palin "Going Rogue."
Some of the reader-submitted falsehoods are correct. For instance, Palin told Sean Hannity that the family “took a vote” on whether she should run for Vice President on the McCain ticket. In an interview with Oprah recently, she said that no vote was taken in regard to the VP slot. However, almost all of the other “falsehoods” are a “he said/she said” situation. Take McCain campaign manager Steve Schmidt’s phone call to Palin over a prank phone call she received from two Canadians pretending to be French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Palin claims Schmidt yelled at her over the incident. Schmidt says that the phone call never happened. The Huffington Post counts that as a falsehood. I see. According to the Huffington Post, if anyone disputes Sarah Palin, their version of events is automatically correct, and Palin is lying.
The left can use the “family vote” anecdote as proof that Palin is a liar; therefore anything she says can be refuted. They then must be willing to apply the same standard to Democrats. Politicians lie. Huffington Post standard-bearer Barack Obama is even guilty of this. When Obama said, in November 2004, that he believes “in knowing what you’re doing when you apply for a job. if I were seriously to consider running on a national ticket, I would essentially have to start now, before having served a day in the Senate. Now there may be some people who are comfortable doing that, but I am not one of those people.” I think we know how that pronouncement turned out. Was that a lie? Weigh in, HuffPo. We won’t even debate here Obama knocking Hillary Clinton over her proposed health care mandate, even as he proposes one himself.
Back to the Vader reference. The willingness of left-leaning media outlets to go even further outside the bounds of what is called journalism and knock Palin at all costs reminds one of young Luke chopping off Vader’s hand, only to see his own hand turn into Vader’s. This is the lesson of using the Power of the Force for the ends of the Dark Side . . .
The more the left fights Palin, the more powerful she becomes. Don’t be surprised if she becomes a serious Presidential candidate in 2012. If that happens and she wins, I caution the left to take a moment, look hard in the mirror, and see why Palin was elected.
The arguments over her inexperience are moot. Can anyone seriously say one-quarter term Senator Barack Obama had more experience than Sarah Palin at the time of his election? And somehow, I don’t see Sarah Palin bowing to the Japanese Emperor.
Knocking Sarah Palin is the left’s greatest pleasure and pastime. Remember, during the campaign, it was Tina Fey who said she can “see Russia from her house,” not Sarah Palin. Yet, scratch an Obama voter and they will attribute the quote to Palin, It is that kind of willing disregard of the facts from the opposition that powers the potential Palin juggernaut.
If the left really wanted to get rid of Sarah Palin from public life, they would simply ignore her. They can’t. They require a person to put all of their fear and anger onto. Some sectors of the right do this with Obama; birthers come to mind. To simply be forgotten by the media is the ultimate political death. Just ask John Edwards.
Palin wins in 2012? Stranger things have happened. Palin, is, for lack of a better phrase, the “anti-Obama”, not because she is a woman and a conservative, but for what she represents to the American public. I can’t say for certain what that is, just as I can’t really say what Barack Obama as President actually says about us, but it is truly the opposite of Mr. Obama.
What these two lightning rods do have in common (yes, there is something) is even more basic: the media just cannot get enough of either of them.
