HOUSTON (YBH) – In what can definitely be considered one of the odder media clips featuring a U.S. government bureaucrat, new NASA Administrator Charles Bolden told Al Jazeera that “perhaps” his “foremost” objective laid out by President Obama as NASA chief was “to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science … and math and engineering.”
It is unclear why the President would task the head of America’s space agency with the “foremost” job of reaching out to dominantly Muslim nations to sure up their belief in their historical achievements in math and engineering as opposed to developing means of space exploration.
Video of Mr. Bolden’s remarks:
Mr. Bolden became NASA Administrator in May of 2009. In June Mr. Bolden said that Mr. Obama “asked NASA to change…by reaching out to ‘non-traditional’ partners and strengthening our cooperation in the Middle East, North Africa, Southeast Asia and in particular in Muslim-majority nations.” Mr. Bolden stated that NASA had answered the President’s call on the matter.
Mr. Bolden spoke with Al Jazeera during a wide ranging interview that aired on June 30th. Watch Charles Bolden’s entire interview with Al Jazeera here.
