LOS ANGELES (YBH) – In January, after a protracted bidding war, FOX picked up the distribution rights for Robert Rodriguez’s latest film “Machete”. A long version of the films trailer has hit the internet and is causing quite a stir for its seemingly pro-race war message.
The trailer below begins with the lead actor of the film, Danny Trejo, saying that he has a special Cinco De Mayo message “to Arizona”. Mr. Trejo’s character Machete is shown on screen looking for yard work one second and then being hired to kill a Senator played by Ron De Niro the next. Mr. De Niro is shown on screen talking about the threat illegal aliens pose to American society before Mr. Trejo attempts to assassinate him. The next two minutes of the trailer shows much gore and violence aimed primarily at the “gringos”. A Mexican priest played by Cheech Marin even gets in on the gringo killing action. Pretty heavy stuff even for Robert Rodriguez.
Trailer for Machete:
It is hard to imagine the reverse scenario being distributed by FOX or any other Hollywood film studio.
With passions running high over illegal immigration, and Arizona’s new anti-illegal immigrant law on the books, look for passions to be stoked further by the above trailer and subsequent film.
“Machete” is set to be released in September.
YBH! note: By naming Arizona in the trailer, Mr. Rodriguez has crossed over from film to politics. A dangerous course of action, as taken on face value the film does look to be promoting race based violence. Our prediction is that FOX never releases the film widely in theaters. Further, it will be interesting to see if Sean Hannity et al. discuss the trailer on their evening talk shows next week.
